I liked this movie ALOT. It's a movie with great messages and despite that the setting of the movie was on the 60's, still on the year 2009 we suffer from many of these things. For example we still have cases of physical and mental abuse, deaths, and even racism. I think the most abundant theme of the movie is defenetly racism which was a very popular theme back then. One of the strongest part of the movie was when Rosaleen went to town to vote, and a white man stopped her and started asking her if she was a smart nigger or a dumb nigger, and she wrote her name on his shoes. He beated her up so bad and he still had the right to do it, that was so horrible, how he did such a thing just because she's colored and what's even worse is that she is a woman. On the other hand, I liked the way Lily became strong and independent and stood up for what she believed was wrong, despite of her age. I think she represents all children who are mentally and phisically abused and how she still went forward and never gave up until she found her happiness. She was mentally abused because her father told her horrible things about her mother, like she never loved her, and was also phisically abused because he beated her evertyime she did something. Unfortunatly we still have similar cases, but this movie is a movie of superation and carries a positive message for everyone.Friday, March 20, 2009
